June 2011 marks the one year anniversary of the IMBA Canada Trail Care Crew program!

Over the past year Chad and Deanne Lazaruk have travelled from coast to coast, visiting more than 30 communities, engaging 174 trail groups, and training over 600 volunteers on the art and science of sustainable trail building. That’s over 3,400 volunteer hours given back to trail communities at IMBA Canada events!

We’d like to congratulate the Trail Care Crew for their hard work and dedication, along with all the hosts, volunteers, clubs, National Parks, and other groups that made Year One a success.

Launched at last year’s Trailhead Ontario conference, the Trail Care Crew program is directed by IMBA Canada, in partnership with Parks Canada and the Trans Canada Trail. The Crew travels across the country year-round in their Subaru Outback, meeting with IMBA-affiliated clubs, Trans Canada Trail partner groups, and Parks Canada sites.

This year alone, Chad and Deanne will stop in 35 communities to teach IMBA Trail Building Schools, Club Care Workshops, and take part in other events.

In spite of massive support from Parks Canada and the Trans Canada Trail, IMBA Canada still needs to raise $50,000 to cover program delivery for 2011. To raise this money, this year's Trail Building Fund is dedicated to keeping the Trail Care Crew on the road, while we seek a title sponsor to carry the program forward.

Prospective hosts can apply to host a 2012 visit online in fall 2011.
