IMBA U.S. LAUNCHES CERTIFICATION PROGRAM FOR MTB SKILLS INSTRUCTORS

Just last week, IMBA U.S. announced the launch of the Instructor Certification Program, which will offer professional training and certification for individuals who lead group rides or teach mountain bike skills clinics.

Courses are planned for every region of the U.S., Canada and worldwide, with sessions already scheduled in Arizona, Japan, and the United Kingdom. IMBA ICP offers three levels of certification, each requiring IMBA membership.

DUTCH CYCLING ADVOCATE TO HEAD IMBA EU

IMBA Europe’s board of directors recently selected Mark Torsious as the organization’s first full-time director. Torsius previously led advocacy efforts for the Dutch Tour Cycling Union (NTFU), a cycling organization that counts more than 53,000 members and 470 affiliated clubs. Press release.

ON THE BLOG: ADVANCED TRAIL BUILDING - INTRODUCING THE SWITCHBERM

If you've read IMBA's trail building advice in Trail Solutions or Managing Mountain Biking you're already familiar with the rolling crown switchback. "Rolling crown switchbacks drain water like a dream, but tend to interrupt the flow of a trail and thus can be awkward to negotiate," reads a description from Trail Solutions. "While this isn’t an issue for hikers and horseback riders who are traveling relatively slowly, a person on a bike would prefer to maintain their speed through the turn."
