After three years of heavy use and minor upgrades, the City of Toronto was ready for a detailed assessment of the formal Crothers' Woods trails.  The purpose being to identify risk management, user experience (aka fun) and sustainability issues throughout the system that their staff could then tackle in the coming year.

IMBA Canada's Daniel Scott conducted the Ecologically Sustainable Trails Course at Fleming College last weekend, teaching students about the protocols, theories, best practices and more that pertain to making sure trails are not only fun but easy on our critical ecosystems.

Part of Fleming College's Sustainable Trails Certificate, this course was focused on how ecology interacts with recreation.  The curriculum tackled everything from federal and provincial legislation to design and construction to assessment and remediation.

Just before the bike park season wound down Daniel Scott, IMBA Canada's trail specialist along with Deanne Lazaruk attended Gravity Logic's yearly forum in Whistler, BC.

The forum attracted over 30 delegates from across the US and Canada, and one keen individual from Sweden. The goal of the forum is to gather people from the resort bike park industry together to share ideas, learn from each other and work together to shape the future.

Gravity Logic is a name that is synonymous with some of the best resort bike park riding in the world and with good reason.  Founding members Dave Kelly and Tom Pro were an intrigal component in making the Whistler Bike Park what it is today with classics such as 'A-Line' or the new alpine trail 'Top of the World'.

September 2012 has turned out to be an absolutely spectalar one weather-wise.  Ten days of beautiful blue skies provided ideal fieldwork conditions as IMBA Canada embarks on developing another trails masterplan for a community along the Yellowhead Highway (16) in northern British Columbia.

Back in the summer & fall of 2011 both the first Canadian Trail Care Crew and Trail Solutions had the privilege of traveling to western Newfoundland to work on a series of major planning & design projects.  The first of these was the development of the Corner Brook Masterplan while the others focused on trail development in the stunning Gros Morne National Park.

IMBA Canada's Daniel Scott participated in the decline Symposium in Whistler during Crankworx and presented to the attendees on the progress IMBA has had both at home and abroad.

There are few things more rewarding than being given a positive update that shows club is doing with the knowledge that one imparts to them at a trails workshop.  One of the many examples from 2012 that is deserving of such a mention is in Saint John, New Brunswick.

There is a lot going on in Toronto these days when it comes to mountain bicycling and trails.  We've got the Sunnyside Bike Park project led by Hoots Inc. moving forwards, the revitalization of the Bayview Bike Park led by IMBA Canada Trail Solutions & Youth Unlimited going on, continued work with the City of Toronto Forestry, IMBA Canada & various public interest groups in Crothers' Woods and now IMBA Canada's involvement in the development of the City of Toronto's Natural Environment Trails Strategy.
