This past weekend I had the pleasure of providing a Trail Building School to my local club, the Tri Cities Off Road Cycling Association (TORCA). More often than not, when working with clubs in Canada, I'm not often a local trail user to begin with, so It was nice to have some more local knowledge and context of what the club was looking to accomplish and how the trail project fit within the overall vision of the trail network.

Banff, Canada's oldest and likely most iconic national park, has a special place in the heart of many Canadians. It has the reputation to inspire and instill a sense of awe in any who visit. Wether you climb one of its many mountain peaks or just view the scenery from the townsite, it's likely you will leave with a heightened appreciation for the rocky mountains.

Earlier this month Trail Solutions focused on design in the rugged terrain within the shadow of the Rocky’s highest peak, Mt. Robson, working with the Yellowhead Outdoor Recreation Association (YORA).  The goal is to develop a new ride destination around the town of Valemount, BC, situated in the “Trench” or “The Valley of a Thousand Peaks”, further strengthening the province’s growing northern mountain bicycle offerings while complimenting those found just across the provincial border in Alberta.

The end of August saw IMBA Canada’s resident trail specialist Daniel Scott head to Fundy National Park on the south shore of New Brunswick for three weeks of trail design and layout. He was given the task of redesigning one of the Park’s more popular trails, White Tail, as well as redesigning the East Branch trail and laying out a new trail at Wolfe Lake to coincide with the proposed campground.
