Wasagaming, MB and Riding Mountain National Park was our Trail Care Crew visit this past weekend. As much as we were in a national park setting, we were not working with the park staff but the local club, the Dead Ox Trail Blazers, who have trail access to parklands.

How do you get a mountain bike club off the ground and get access to local trails? I am sure there are many riders out there that wonder about this on a regular basis and this past weekend’s Trail Care Crew visit with LACA is a perfect example of how it is done.

There is a lot going on in Toronto these days when it comes to mountain bicycling and trails.  We've got the Sunnyside Bike Park project led by Hoots Inc. moving forwards, the revitalization of the Bayview Bike Park led by IMBA Canada Trail Solutions & Youth Unlimited going on, continued work with the City of Toronto Forestry, IMBA Canada & various public interest groups in Crothers' Woods and now IMBA Canada's involvement in the development of the City of Toronto's Natural Environment Trails Strategy.

Conservation Halton held their annual Conservation Awards of Excellence on Thursday, June 7, 2012 to recognize those who have provided a significant contribution to conservation in the Halton watershed.

GORBA was awarded the Community Award, which ispresented to a community organization, institution or business that has undertaken a significant conservation action that exemplifies wise conservation”.

Coming up in October are two very important advocacy meetings.

I want to stress that these are not you run of the mill "show up and support MTB" meetings. IMO these are once in a generation meeting that will act as turning points in the respective areas. So if you are anywhere near these areas at the dates these meeting are happening, please show up and lend your voice to the cause.

At the Spring 2011 Toronto International Bike Show IMBA Canada held our first face-to-face meeting of the Ontario Regional Leadership Advisory Council (RLAC). In attendance were nine club delegates, all of the IMBA Canada staff, and a special guest: a visiting club president from Tennesee.
