Last weekend, in my capacity as IMBA Canada's Quebec Coordinator, I attended a meeting in Sutton in the eastern townships. A group of bicyclists and trail users met in order to form a trail association. The goal is to organize and propose a network of trails in the area. Sutton has a great reputation amongst outdoor enthousiasts for hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter but the bicyclists hope that they can put together a proposal to have trails designated for mountain biking as well as a few new trails in the area.

Our most recent Trail Care Crew visit in Invermere, BC, was a great one; 29 participants came out to our Trail Building School, we collected record donations to the 2012 Trail Building Fund, and also had a great Club Care Workshop with almost twenty members from the Columbia Valley Cycling Society's board and executive.

I read a lot of mountain bike magazines. In the June issue of Mountain Bike Rider (a UK publication) the editorial (pg 61) by Andy Waterman was about vigilantism in erecting trail blockades. He was victim to one recently and started to reflect on the why it is that mountain bikers in general can’t seem to get (and stay) organized. If this happened on a trail frequented by equestrians or ATVer or snowmobiler it would have quickly be dealt with through official means. Why can’t we seem to do this?
