Two weeks ago we hosted our first of three integrated land manager training workshops sponsored by Shimano Canada in Kelowna, BC. What followed were two days of workshops both in the classroom and in the field, but even more than the information gained were the fantastic connections made and conversations had between various different agencies and partners throughout the visit. The two-day workshop had 12 attendees from many different organizations represented. City of Kelowna, Rec. Sites and Trails BC, Big White and Parks Canada were all represented to name a few.

Our drive into the beautiful Vernon, BC, had us excited about the types of trail we might find in the Okanagan. With a wide range of vegetation types and geology, we guessed there would be plenty of variety to be had riding in the region. We were not wrong.

Environmental impacts of users on trails continues to be a hot topic in many regions. During the past five to seven years there has been a flurry of research papers on trail use and environmental impact for all user groups. The fact of the matter is any user on a trail has some impact on the environment. However, it is baffling that statements are still made that go against all credible research regarding the extent of the impact each user has.

Campbell River is definitely a great place to check out if you are planning your next riding vacation. A short drive north of the Comox Valley (which also has fantastic riding) and near Mount Washington (for the gravity lovers), the Snowden Recreation Area has about 100 kilometers of singletrack.
