Thanks to All Who Participated in Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day

Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day (TKMBD), presented by Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) here in Canada, is IMBA’s largest, one-day annual event and brings together kids big and small to celebrate the joy of riding bikes on trails. This year was the eleventh edition and drew more than 1,500 participants at 32 events across Canada, with an additional 14,000 participants in the U.S. and seven other countries: Australia, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands and Panama.

Thanks to support from MEC, one lucky participant will be bringing home a new bicycle for their child. Michael Melo, from Victoria, BC was randomly selected to win our social media giveaway after sharing his #TKMBD experience on Facebook.

The Columbia Valley Cycling Society, an IMBA Canada club in Invermere, BC was one of many groups that participated in the celebrations. With riders as young as four years old participating in the mountain bike rides, they are already planning their next Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day.

"This was our first time doing this event and we will do it again next year as it was a great success!" wrote Darcy Martin, of the CVCS. "I had one parent say we should do this type of thing every weekend, they had so much fun!"

A huge thanks to all of the volunteers, IMBA clubs and affiliated organizations, Parks Canada and other land management agencies, bike shops, community organizations and others who made Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day happen in Canada, and to MEC for their sponsorship support of IMBA Canada's event. Today’s young mountain bikers are tomorrow’s land managers, community leaders, trail builders and trail advocates!
