IMBA Ontario program launches

With so many great riders, clubs, and retailers, Canada's most populated province has always been supportive of IMBA's mission in Canada, and around the world. To serve our members and the mountain bike community better, we've joined forces with Mountain Bike Ontario (host of the 2011 Trailblazing Festival) to create IMBA Ontario – a provincial program of IMBA Canada.

To be orchestrated by IMBA Canada's Ontario Coordinator, Igor Hoogendoorn, along with a dedicated team of volunteer leaders, IMBA Ontario's goal is to build a province-wide community in support of mountain biking – providing the backbone for continued access to appealing trails, trail building expertise, a positive image, and political influence.

Mountain Bike Ontario was formed in 2010 to represent the interests of mountain bikers through the promotion, collaboration and growth of mountain biking in Ontario. With a successful festival under its belt, and great aspirations for improving mountain biking opportunities within the province, it became clear that both MTB Ontario and IMBA Canada were striving to accomplish the same goals.

"The opportunity to collaborate with such a passionate group of individuals, and to lend the IMBA name to this fresh provincial initiative is one we could not pass up," said Lora Woolner, executive director of IMBA Canada. "We're thrilled to be able to put our energies and resources together to build greater capacity and opportunity for mountain biking in Ontario."

The primary focus for the 2012 season will be the IMBA Ontario Trailblazing Festival, taking place August 18-19, 2012 at Hardwood Ski and Bike, as well as building IMBA's capacity provincially through a pilot of the IMBA Chapter program.
