IMBA Canada Announces Partnership with 1% for the Planet

Kitchener, ON - July 17, 2014 – The International Mountain Bicycling Association (Canada) is a new nonprofit partner of 1% for the Planet, an alliance of over 1,200 member companies in 48 countries that give one percent of revenues to environmental causes.

IMBA Canada is now eligible to receive donations from 1% for the Planet member companies, placing them among a diverse, global network of environmental organizations.  1% member businesses fuel this non-profit network through their annual contributions, which totaled over $20 million in 2013.  Partnership with 1% greatly expands the potential pool of funding to which IMBA Canada can look to for support.

Newly approved as a partner, IMBA Canada contributes to a healthier planet by encouraging active living, low-impact riding, volunteer trailwork participation, cooperation among different trail user groups, grassroots advocacy, and innovative trail management solutions. Globally, IMBA is recognized as the leader in sustainable trail development. Together with its land management agency partners, like Parks Canada, IMBA members volunteer more than one million hours each year to improve trails or open new ones, creating a massive force in support of sustainable recreation.

Over 3,600 nonprofits worldwide are included in the 1% for the Planet network, and over $100 million has been funneled to its nonprofit partners to date.  “The intent of 1% for the Planet is to help fund these diverse environmental organizations so that collectively they can be a more powerful force in solving the world’s problems,” says John Tashiro, Interim CEO of 1% for the Planet.

“IMBA Canada is dedicated to protecting our public lands and enjoying them by mountain bike,” said Lora Woolner, IMBA Canada director. “Preserving the land, riding respectfully, and engaging local user groups in the care of the trails they ride are ways to create a constituency for the outdoors and to ensure trail access for years to come. In our own small way, we are improving the world in which we live, and we are proud to be included in the 1% for the Planet network.”
