A great fall day with cool temps and a little bit of fog set the stage for a successful IMBA Canada Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day event hosted by Fundy National Park and Mike's Bike Shop!

A very special THANK-YOU to MEC for the prizing - the kids loved it!

On June 7th, Mount Revelstoke National Park celebrated its centennial with the second annual “Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day” at the Nels Nelsen Historic Area in the park.

The RCMP, Flowt, and Parks Canada provided a jam-packed day for families with a children’s bicycle skills and obstacle course, bike and helmet checks, stickers, prizes, draws, bike information and refreshments. The event was a huge success with sunny skies and perfect temperatures.

If you are like me, you've been spending tons of time on the saddle, exploring new trails, loving old favourites and enjoying many great rides with friends.

I hope that you can take a few minutes out of your busy ride schedule to think ahead to the fall and the annual Take A Kid Mountain Biking Event. The official day is on Saturday October 5, 2013, but we already have many events planned in the weeks leading up to the 5th.  It's time to share the love with kids in your community and IMBA Canada is here to help make it easy for you.

There are a myriad of kid friendly events happening across Canada every day!

With the generous support of MEC, our Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day coordinator Deanne Lazaruk has been able to put together an interactive map that links you directly to events happening across Canada so it's easier for you to find out more information on the events near you.

We are encouraging clubs, groups, event planners to get in touch with us with your event information so that we can add it to our map. Check back often as we will be posting events on a regular basis.

Getting kids on bikes and out on the trails has been a passion of mine for over ten years. Shortly after I began riding, I volunteered to help out with the Kids of Mud program in my hometown of Winnipeg, MB. Twice a week I had myself a fun group of kids to teach about riding and racing. Being able to share my knowledge and passion for the sport with the kids is such an inspiration to me that no matter where I go, my goal is to continue to help get kids on bikes.

Twenty five — it's a number you'll be seeing a lot of from IMBA this year as we celebrate our founding in 1988. To get the silver anniversary year underway we'll start with a look at some of last year's successes in Canada, and around the world:

IMBA Canada, the Guelph Off Road Bicycling Association (GORBA), and JOYRIDE150 will be taking part in the Blue Jays & Parks Canada Campout at the Rogers Centre, May 21st.

Participants will get the chance to learn to ride a bike, or learn new skills on the diamond of Canada's largest indoor park!

The event kicks off the celebrations for Parks Canada's Centennial birthday, which takes place on May 19th, 2011.

Chad and Deanne were ecstatic to learn that they would be in Winnipeg, Manitoba for Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day on October 2, 2010. Deanne became involved with the Kids of Mud program about ten years ago when she first started riding and racing. Teaching kids how to ride became her passion and even though she now considers herself to be a trailbuilder, she still has a soft spot for teaching kids.
