The summit was a great opportunity for some great minds in mountain biking to gather and share ideas on any topic under the sun: sustainable trail design, conservation, bicycle tourism and economic development, and trail advocacy. Of course, the town provided a great facility to hold a world class event with fantastic trails, great food, beautiful environment, and great people. The bar has been set higher yet again, can the 2014 summit possibly best this?

Coming up in October are two very important advocacy meetings.

I want to stress that these are not you run of the mill "show up and support MTB" meetings. IMO these are once in a generation meeting that will act as turning points in the respective areas. So if you are anywhere near these areas at the dates these meeting are happening, please show up and lend your voice to the cause.

The Sunshine Coast is also world renown for its epic single track trails, hosting some big events like the BC Bike Race and of course for being the filming grounds for countless bike movies and the Beachcombers. It truly is a special place.

Near the end of September, IMBA Canada was given the privilege of attending the Ontario Bike Summit, courtesy of the Share the Road Coalition. Over the course of the two day conference, attendees participated in a variety of lectures and workshops focused on promoting a world where cyclists co-exist safely with motorists.

One might ask why IMBA would be involved a conference who’s primarily focus is on road cycling and urban infrastructure? Two ideas come to mind when asked this question:

Last Wednesday, Daniel Scott and Jason Murray were provided the opportunity to partake in a meeting at the Grand River Conservation Authorities’ Puslinch Tract. The purpose of their attendance was to participate an initial dialogue between two locals, who are spearheading an initiative to help legitimize the mountain biking opportunities at the tract, and officials from the GRCA.
